Founder Featured by InvestEd.

Recently, our co-founder Kate was featured in an amazing female empowerment series by the local financial advisor team at InvestEd. We love working with their crew and were so thrilled to be featured! Money and financial education aren’t always the easiest things to tackle, especially in the crazy world of small business! No one really has it “all figured out” and we’re so glad we can be part of spreading the word about growth for entrepreneurs! See the full Q&A below:

What does it mean to you to be a woman crushing it?
In today’s world, I feel like we’re constantly reminded that we’re ’not doing enough.’ But there’s a growing push for vulnerability, understanding, and support - and that is where I find amazing women ‘crushing it’. They are working to unsubscribe from what society has told them it takes to be successful, and are figuring out what works for them and then sharing that wisdom! I work hard every day to chase after my dreams, but I make sure to look around to see if anyone is running with me. Knowledge is power and that power is never diminished by sharing it.

What is the best piece of financial advice you have received?
Get friendly with money! For a long time, I was uncomfortable talking/thinking/discussing money and finances. It always seemed like you were supposed to KNOW what you were doing. Numbers have never been my strong suit and I associated the two together, creating the limiting belief that I would never understand. But, I’ve learned that nobody wins when you refuse growth (duh!). The more you get involved, ask questions and build a relationship with your finances, the better you’ll be.

From where do you draw your "Crushing it" strength?
I can be fiercely driven, but not always on my own. I am fueled by the strong, brilliant women around me. I grew up with a mother who rocked her own business (and continues to rock it). I’ve surrounded myself with friends and colleagues who support each other, who are always extending a helping hand or participating in a helpful business brainstorm. Their grit, optimism, courageousness, empathy, passion, and vibrancy keep me going every day.

What habits/actions have you employed in order to reach your financial goals?
I’m working on demystifying my relationship with my finances. I have gotten clear on short term and long term goals and desires, all of which require money. So, I’ve worked to get specific on how much those things will cost and I’m taking action to get there. The first step has been a better understanding through awareness. I keep a daily journal that keeps track of my financial transactions, making sure I see when and where I have money going in and out.

What has been your greatest triumph?
So far, I’d say one of my greatest triumphs has been starting my own business. But it’s not as simple as that - what I’m really proud of is that I recognized there was a change to be made, and actually made it. After I had my cancerous blob removed, all I wanted to do was go back to work…get back to “normal life.” But when I got there, the page had already turned. I could have easily stayed working on my amazing job with my amazing team. I wasn’t sure if I was ‘ready’ or if I could do it or if it would work out. But, with the support of my family and friends, I followed my gut, pushed through the doubt and made the change.

Somewhere along the line, I’ve figured out that I’m the only one who’s in control of my dreams and I have the power to push forward with purpose. So I keep going. And hopefully, I and all of us will continue to update our ‘greatest triumph’ answer as we grow.
